“Okay, it was a bad day. This morning I had chemo. Then at 9 am radiation and this afternoon again. But despite everything there was some sun shining through the clouds. And that bit of sun came from the "Bianca Center " at Gasthuisberg. An idyllic spot in the heart of the hospital where you can just forget you're a patient. I enjoyed the massage and facial. As soon as the hot oil and skillful hands touched my back and shoulders, I felt the sickly feeling in my stomach disappear. Delicious. You can indeed ask yourself whether offering relaxing massages and beauty treatments is compatible with the activities of a hospital. For me it’s a resounding YES! Away from the "hospital atmosphere" with its hospital walls, hospital colours and hospital smell, dreaming away to the magical sounds of Enya. Just forgetting for a moment that we are sick. And if all of this can be financed through sponsorship – as is the case here – then you can only think it’s wonderful. An initiative that deserves imitation. I did in any case - despite the horrible day – leave the place feeling a bit “healthier”.”

"In order to cope, the strength, understanding and gentleness of others certainly are the most valuable tools in addition to clinical work".
"The Mimi Foundation is an extraordinary help. We are surrounded with such good and kind people, who help and advise us in a warm environment. "
"I will never forget the beautician who gave me courage. "
"Once one enters the hallway, he/she appreciates the peaceful and benevolent atmosphere. One can never forget that it’s a hospital, but everything is done so that the patient can feel good immediately.
"I will never forget the way in which I was surrounded and supported. Here I have found the courage to persevere to the end of my treatment."
"My wife, my children, my friends, they were all very present during my chemo. And yet there were times when I just felt terrible and horrible. How could I tell them that without hurting them? To speak openly to someone else about everything I experienced, that felt so good ".
"Cancer is always something that happens to anybody but you. Until the ground under your feet sinks away ... "
"You do not expect it. The oncology department is a place where people prefer not to sit too long. And then, there is a smile, you hear encouragement and sometimes laughter that goes from one room to another. And every time you are warmly welcomed on the phone, an everyday support. The attention and the warmth of the Mimi Foundation brought a bit of lightness during my chemotherapy. "
